Speaking the Right Language: Designing for Voice

Voice applications present an entirely new field of work that challenges the way we approach design. Expertise in designing visual content for web, print, and mobile apps does not immediately translate to voice. Careful planning of user flows, language, and interactions is required in order to create an engaging and intuitive experience.

Platforms like Amazon Alexa and Google Home give us new ways to connect to our audiences when they're not directly tied to a screen. They also let us open up possibilities to make information accessible to those that can't view a screen. It's important to understand what type of content is most meaningful to people within these new contexts.

We'll demonstrate how we choose which content to present in voice apps, how to plan out a successful voice application workflow, and tools that you can use to easily integrate voice with your existing web platforms. Prioritizing testing early in the process is crucial and can be done without any programming. We'll also demonstrate recent voice work for Freer|Sackler, Cooper Hewitt, and People Magazine.
